To support the evidence based selection of a target district in Xieng Khouang Province TABI complied the best available national level data as input to the district selection workshop involving a number of national and local stakeholders.

As an entry point for developing District Agrobiodiversity Action Plan for the district, TABI applied the Agro-Ecosystems Analysis (AEA) methodology. AEA is an interdisciplinary and holistic analysis and planning methodology which involved a number of methods and involves a wide array of stakeholders.
The Phouk Khout AEA used a number of participatory tools to analyse spatial, temporal, social and economic patterns in regard to resource use and local livelihoods. The outputs of these tools were then used to identify key issues relevant to agrobiodiversity and poverty, and these were elaborated to form the basis for planning TABI interventions.
One of the main outputs of the AEA is the joint identification of key issues to be addressed by TABI over the next years in Phouk Khout.
